What’s That? Wednesday: Bully

It’s that time again, What’s That? Wednesday! Actually, I skipped last week and the week before was on a Thursday, so I guess this is technically the first one. Sorry for the lack of posts recently, I’ve actually be super busy at work, which is usually when I write posts since we don’t have internet at home.

This week’s question is “Have you seen the documentary Bully?” Helen came over early this morning, we got Casey’s donuts and coffee, and then we watched this movie I’d rented over the weekend. I’d heard of it before and have been wanting to see it since it was released, so when I saw it at FV on Sunday I had to get it (also, I had received a dormancy call, so got a free rental & have half off for two weeks…does that make me a bad former employee that I guess I haven’t rented anything in 3 months??).

I really enjoyed it. It was hard to watch at points and it’s sometimes so hard to believe that this is such a huge issue. So my question for you is, have you watched it? Did you like it or learn anything from it? Feel free to leave any comments with more thoughts!

The Office Goodbye

Last night a little piece of my life ended. It was The Office series finale. This had been a long time coming (probs should have ended when Steve Carell left the show), but once it finally got closer to May 16th, I decided I was not ready to let go.

I wish I could say that I watched the show from the very beginning, but I didn’t (I just had to look back to see when the first episode was-the pilot aired just before I graduated high school!). I don’t remember the first episode that I saw, but I do remember sitting in the basement during an EIU spring break catching up on old episodes. It must have been my sophomore break, so in 2007 they would have already been in season three. I just remember falling in love with this silly show down in the basement.

This show was more than just a show to me…I finally had an answer to the question, “What’s your favorite tv show?” When I was in high school, I remember never knowing how to answer that question. I think my go-to answer was The Simpsons. But once I started The Office, I was hooked.

I own every season but 8 (and, well, 9 now…we’ll wait until Black Friday to pick those up! last year we got 7 for like 12 bucks or something awesome) and can pretty much tell you what season anything happened in. As I was thinking back last night, I really don’t think I have a favorite episode. One of my top faves is definitely Benihana Christmas. I also always loved the episode in season 2 when Jim had everyone over to his house and also, of course, Michael & Jan’s dinner party. I’m thinking that last night’s finale also ranks up there pretty high! I think that they did a great job with it.

At first, I wasn’t really digging how it was a year later, but I guess that makes sense with the documentary and how they are checking up on them (makes me feel like we should prob have an office reunion every year). I did not like that Kevin got fired (but I did like Dwight’s cake to him). However, that allowed them to bring Devin back!! hahaha Devin! from season one! who got fired when Creed talked Michael out of firing him haha.

I liked most of the middle (it was cute how Erin was reunited with her birth parents…mostly hilarious because she had no clue what was going on) and Dwight’s bachelor party was good (love how they brought in the stripper from Bob Vance’s bachelor party/the nurse who accepted the check for rabies research). Also hilarious? Meredith’s son at Angela’s bachelorette party hahaha. Perfection!

And then it was Dwight’s wedding day. And then Michael Scott showed up. How great. I seriously was believed all of the articles on the internet saying he wouldn’t be in it. I still held out a little hope, but honestly had kind of even forgotten about it possibly happening. I legit though Jim was going to make Mose the best man & Michael hadn’t crossed my mind haha!

I think what they did with Michael’s part was perfect. He got in a great “that’s what she said,” and then was basically his old self throughout the wedding. Showing him in the background dancing? Perfect. Showing pictures of his kids to Pam and Pam’s line about him having two cell phones to hold all of the pictures? Perfect. His line about Jim & Pam and Dwight & Angela- it’s like your kids marrying one another, every parents dream. Perfect. I don’t think there need to be any more Michael Scott and I’m glad that most of the episode was focused around Jim/Pam/Dwight.

hahaha and I just thought about Kelly & Ryan running off together (and leaving Ryan’s baby with Nelly, that was weird).

I liked the way the episode ended just with everyone hanging out. I feel like everyone’s stories were completed…although I’m still dying to know what happens next (except with Andy, his weirdo story could have ended a long time ago).

So, thank you, Office for being a part of my life for so many years. My Thursday nights will never be the same. I know I still have Parks and Rec and Modern Family to watch and use as my favorite tv shows, but neither of those are just not the same as The Office.

I had a random thought before bed last night. A few years ago I received the complete dvd series of I Love Lucy. I can only hope that someday I have a grandkid who asks for the complete series of The Office (and if they don’t ask for it, I’ll probs get it for them anyway).

What’s That? Wednesday

Earlier this morning I had a random idea to start a new blog feature called “What’s That? Wednesdays” where I am going to ask a question as a poll to see what kinds of responses I get. Yes, yes, I realize today is Thursday (my Friday, actually! hooray!), but I this was something I was wondering this morning and decided I need answers now.

So…for the first poll ever…..Is it acceptable for me to wear scarves throughout the summer? Even if the general consensus is no, I’ll probably continue to do it (unless you leave a comment with ten reasons not to), but I am just wondering what your thoughts are. I love all of the scarves I have in my wardrobe, and when I wear them I feel fashiony (mmmyup). I love that how I can have on a plain t-shirt and throw on a scarf and feel dressed up. Take today for example:

High Five For Friday

Another Friday! And I have the day off work-hooray! M & I are heading down to Jerseyville for our niece’s first dance recital & other family things, so we both took the day off. But first things first, I’m linking up with Lauren for High Five for Friday!

5_101. I made belated Cinco de Mayo fajitas on Tuesday. They were amazing.

2. Helen & I went to Arts in the Park at the Peoria Courthouse on Tuesday because the Morton bands were playing. It was soo nice out and really hard to go into work afterwards.

3. I went to the Chiefs game with Jordan on Monday night. They won!

4. Iced coffees are my new thing…I’ve had 6? in the past 8 days. omgyum

5. Still can’t get over how funny this picture is. M went to take a picture of me & Helen at Arts in the Park. He couldn’t see the screen because of the sun, so had no clue what he was taking a picture of. Helen got home and went to look at the picture and this is what it was. The front-facing camera had been flipped on, but since he couldn’t see the screen, he had no idea.

Happy weekend!

Outside

Since it’s finallyyyy nice out, I just can’t get enough of being outside! I read outside last Wednesday morning, I’ve gone to two Chiefs games and then today I spent almost two hours at the Peoria Courthouse for Arts in the Park because Morton was playing. I should probably just quit work and move outside for forevs…especially when the pool is open in a few weeks! I’m just loving it right now.

English Muffin Za

If you know me, you know I love pizza. Like love it love it. Like I could eat it every day love it. This is a quick and easy recipe when you don’t have the time (or money) to make a big pizza. I made mine with just cheese, but you can make it however you want, obvs.

I received a toaster oven as a wedding gift (thanks Mama C!). I don’t use it very often, but I use it most for english muffin pizzas. You can easily make them in the oven though. All you need are some english muffins (you can buy wheat, makes you feel a little better about yourself), pizza sauce, cheese & any toppings.

I like to run mine through the toaster setting before I add on any toppings. It just makes them crispy & delicious. Also, bake them on foil-makes for an easy clean-up!

and cheese! and any other toppings

Now bake them for about 10-12 minutes. Not sure what temperature this was set on, probably 400ish. Just keep an eye on them

and serve

After I ate these I may or may not have made one more. These are probably better off being an afternoon snack than a full dinner, but when you’re looking for something quick and easy, I definitely recommend this. One of my faves!

High Five For Friday

5_3

Happy Friday! Today I’m linking up with Lauren for High Five For Friday.

1. I just couldn’t get over how lovely it was outside on Wednesday. Since I didn’t have to be at work until 1, I decided to make an iced coffee (for the first time!) and a bagel and take a book outside to read. It was hard to come inside and get ready for work.

2. A week ago we went to a Cardinals game with M’s aunt and uncle. We had fab seats and the Birds won. Always a good time!

3. Sorry for the graphic image. I took a less than 10-minute walk/run. I got home, took my shoes off, grabbed a glass of water and sat down on the couch before realizing my sock was soaked in blood. Gross.

4. Again, Wednesday was just so nice I was determined to spend more time outside after work. Brittney Spon and I went to the Chiefs game.

5. No week would be complete without a picture of these sweeties. Last night I poured them a midnight snack when I saw Lily was sitting by an empty bowl. They ate together for a while then later I looked over and Lena was still snacking. I looked at her and said “Do you really need to be doing that?” and she guiltily walked away from the bowl.

Have a great weekend!
